More than 1,200 small family farms, tailgate markets, farm-to-table restaurants, and similar organizations in the region belong to Asheville-based Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project. ASAP lists more than 150 area restaurants and bakeries that buy direct from local farmers. A farm tour is held annually in September. ASAP also publishes a print and online guide to local food sources and tailgate markets.
